She held a variety of jobs in teaching hospitals, as well as working as a GP and for the Royal Flying Doctors. Since coming to England in 1993, she has worked at The London Lighthouse, caring for people with HIV and AIDS, spent two years working at the Barbican Medical Centre in the City and three years as a GP in Holborn. She has held a variety of hospital jobs within respiratory medicine, cardiology, oncology and accident and emergency.
Dr. Hales holds a Diploma of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and is a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP) as well as the Diploma in Family Planning (DFP). She is married with one daughter and one son.
